Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of William Thomsone, clerk of the burgh of Edinburgh, notary public, following upon and narrating a Decree of the Lords of Council (dated 23rd March 1648) ordaining letters to be issued charging the provost and bailies of Edinburgh to infeft Gilbert McLellane, skinner, burgess of said burgh in (1) that land or house with the cellar and pertinents formerly the property of umquhile Rychard Wilsoun, elder, (to whom it was disponed by umquhile [Captain] Johne Adamsone) thereafter of umquhile Rychard Wilsoun, younger, and thereafter of umquhile James Wilsoun, grandfather, and John Wilsoun, father, of Agnes Wilsoun, lying on the east side of the Trans of Cranstoun's Close on the north side of the King's High Street of the burgh of Edinburgh, between the lands of umquhile William Andersoun and the said close on the west, the lands of umquhile William Williamsoun on the east, the lands of umquhile William Strang on the south, and the lands of on the north, (2) the south cellar of the foresaid land under the hall of the said Rychard Wilsoun, elder, to whom it was disponed by umquhile Androw Ferrum (3) that tenement of land "heich and laich" with pertinents, of umquhile Georg Cranstoun lying on the north side of the said High Street, between the lands of the said umquhile William Andersoun on the west, the lands of umquhile John Aikinheid on the north, the lands of umquhile William Litill on the east, and the king's common highway on the south, in special warrandice of the lands Nos. 1 and 2 supra disponed by Adamsone and Ferrum to Rychard Wilsoun, elder, (4) that "taill" or waste land with pertinents formerly the property of umquhile Frances Bell, thereafter of the said Rychard Wilson, lying within the tenement sometime of umquhile William Rynd (which lies on the north side of the said High Street, between the tenement of land of umquhile Edward Howp on the west and the tenement of the said Frances Bell on the east), on the north side of the yard of umquhile Alexander Achisone of Gosford, between the said yard on the south and the North Loch of the burgh on the north, and (5) that foreland, under and above, with pertinents sometime the property of umquhile Adam Wallace, thereafter of umquhile William Scot and Alexander Barclay, apothecaries, lying in the Castelhill on the south side of the High Street, between the tenement of umquhile Rychard Wilsoun Richard Lawsoun in the clause giving sasine., thereafter of the heirs of umquhile Thomas Symsoun on the east, the tenement of umquhile William Meill on the south, and the king's highway on the north: which lands formerly pertained to the foresaid Agnes Wilsoun daughter and heir of umquhile Johne Wilsone, merchant, burgess of Edinburgh, and oy and heir of umquhile James Wilsoun, skinner, burgess of said burgh, lawfully charged to enter heir in speciall to her said father and grandfather, and were apprised from her and from James Maxwell, skinner, burgess of said burgh, her tutor dative, for his interest by Process of Apprising led by the said Gilbert McLellane, in presence of William Robertsoun, messenger, sheriff of the sheriffdom of the burgh of Edinburgh, against her as heir foresaid in satisfaction of the sum of 2540 merks Scots of principal and 127 merks of sheriff's fee; and to which Process and Decree the said Gilbert McLellane constituted James Maxwell, skinner, his cessioner and assignee by letters of assignation dated at Edinburgh 19th June 1648. Sasine given upon the ground of said tenement and lands, on 6th July 1648, by Robert Sandilandis, one of the bailies of the burgh of Edinburgh, to the said James Maxwell, and to Robert Hislop, attorney for Elizabeth Wilsoun, spouse of the said James, and to the longest liver of them in conjunct infeftment and to the heirs lawfully procreated or to be procreated between them, whom failing, to the lawful and nearest heirs or assignees of the said James whomsoever |

Witnesses, Robert Pargillis, skinner, John Forrester, bookseller, George Cheyne and William Duncan, servitors of the notary, James Nicoll, tailor, William Sympsoun, William Fymertoun and John Wallace, sergeants of said burgh. The notarial docquet states that the bailie's seal was appended. This has not been done. |
