Letters of Reversion (in the vernacular) by Schir Thomas Lyone, curate of Levingstoun, narrating that although Gawane Levingstone, fiar of the Maines of Levingston, with consent of Gawane Levingstone, his father, franktenementer thereof, had sold to him by charter and sasine (a) 15 riggs of land occupied and manured by him, (b) a piece of land called the Bromehalch and a piece of land lying at the Bankhed towards the west entry of the kirkstile of the kirk of Levingstone with the mansion and houses, also occupied by him, and (c) a little piece of waste land occupied by William Millar, with their pertinents, lying within the barony of Levingstone and sheriffdom of Linlithqw, he, nevertheless, bound himself, on receiving payment of the sum of £20 upon the altar of St. Michael the Archangel situated in the said church, together with (1) a letter of tack of the said lands of Bromehalch, mail free, for seven years from the date of redemption and (2) a letter of tack of the said 15 riggs, mail free, for three years from the date of redemption, to resign said lands in favour of the said Gawane Levingstone, younger. He further bound himself on receiving lawful warning not to absent himself from receipt of said sums and letters of tack, and if he should do so, the said Gawane was to have free ingress to the foresaid lands, and to the lands of Crag specially assigned in warrandice, without process of law or impediment.
