Title |
I. Brieve from the Chancery of Charles I directed to the sheriff and his bailies of Aberdene, commanding them to hold an inquest for ascertaining what lands and annualrents John Stewart, Lord Buchan, Chamberlain of Scotland, grandson of the late William de Keth, Marshall of Scotland, who was proavus tritavus of William, Earl Marischal, Lord Keith and Altrie, was vest and seised in within their jurisdiction at the time of his death, and if the said Earl was his nearest and lawful heir male. At Edinburgh 1st May 1630.
In dorso:- Certificate that proclamation of the above brieve was made at the market cross of Aberdeen on 12 May 1630 by William Kay, depute mair of the sheriffdom of Aberdeen, who at the command John Keyth of Glakriach, sheriff depute of said sheriffdom, cited all who had interest to compear at a court to be held in the tolbooth of the burgh on 29th May following. Witnesses, Robert Smith, burgess of Aberdeen, Robert Keyth, writer there, Thomas Mortimer and Patrick Smith, burgesses of said burgh, William Murcor, John Barkar, Robert Sleich, Archibald Mair and Gilbert Breck, serjeands of said burgh.
II. Certified Copy of Retour of Inquest made in the sheriff court of Aberdeen on 29 May 1630 by Mr. Alexander Paip, sheriff depute of the sheriffdom of Aberdeen, finding that William, Earl Marischal, was nearest and lawful heir male of the said John Stewart, Lord Buchan, who died at the faith and peace of King James I.
