Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of David Robesoun of the diocese of St. Andrews, clerk of the town and lands of Newheavin, notary public, following upon and narrating a Precept of Clare Constat (dated at the Canongate 14 April 1628) by Hugh Broun, burgess of Edinburgh, the king's hereditary bailie of his port of Newheawyne and of the lands within the bounds and jurisdiction thereof, addressed to Robert McCune, writer in Edinburgh, his bailie in that part, for infefting Edmund Smyth as heir of Alexander Smyth, burgess of the Canongate, his brother-german, in (1) 3 acres of land with pertinents which formerly pertained to the late George Thomsone, lying between the lands of late Thomas Hoppringhill on the west, the lands of the late John Craufurd of Bonyngtoun on the east and south, and the public highway on the north; (2) 2½ acres of land with pertinents, lying between the lands pertaining to the late Robert Bartane of Ovir Libertoun (? Barntoun) on the south and west, the common king's highway on the north, and an acre of land pertaining to the Altar of the Holy Blood on the east; (3) an acre of land lying between the lands of the late William Bell on the east, the lands of the late James Thomsoun on the west, the Hill-heid and the drop-fall of the same [on the north] and the common passage or highway on the south; (4) 6 particates of land with pertinents lying between the lands of James Thomsone on the east, the common passage on the south, the lands of the late John Andersoun on the west, and the Hill-heid and drop-fall of the same on the north, and (5) 7 particates of land with pertinents lying contiguous between the lands of the late James Brounscheillis on the east, the lands of the late Robert Andersoun, baker, on the west, the common king's highway on the south, and the passage to the ebb and flow of the sea on the north, all lying within the bounds of the said port of Newheawyne & sheriffdom of Edinburgh: Which lands are held of the king in chief, for payment of 2 shillings Scots for each acre and 5 pence Scots for each particate and for the other services of the said port and lands. Description |
Witnesses to the precept, Walter Logane, common-clerk of the burgh of the Canongate and the notary. Witnesses to the sasine, William Thomsoun, mealman, indweller in Leith, Jeremiah Hill, indweller in the town of Newheavyne, Thomas McCune, brother of the said Robert, and James Rattray, sergeant of the said town and lands of Newheavyne.
