Title |
Charter by William Montgumrie of Brigend whereby in implement of a contract of marriage (dated at Edinburgh 20 (?) June 1626) entered into between him and John Montgumrie, his eldest lawful son and heir apparent, on the one part, and Elizabeth Baxter, lawful daughter of the late Thomas Baxter, servitor to King James VI, with consent of Adam Montgumrie of Magbehill, Mr. Robert Montgumrie fiar thereof, and William Woddrope, notary in Glasgow, her curators, on the other part, he granted to his son the said John Montgumrie, and Elizabeth, his future spouse, in conjunct infeftment, and the heirs male to be lawfully procreated between them, whom failing, to the heirs male of the said John whomsoever, the four merklands of Constabilland lying in King's Kyle and sheriffdom of Air: To be held a me for payment to Neill Montgumrie of Langschawe of the ferms and duties used and wont: With precept of sasine. Witnesses, Neill Montgomre of Langschaw, John Lockhart of Bar, Mr. Robert Montgomre fiar of Magbehill, William Montgomre, son of the granter, and William Woddrop, notary.
Seal gone. Signed by the granter and witnesses. The charter is written by John McGilchrist, servitor of the said notary.
In dorso:- Minute by Neill Montgomre of Langschaw, superior of the four merklands of Constabilland, ratifying and approving of the preceding Charter. At Stewartoun Kirk 7 July 1630. Witnesses, Adame Montgomre of Magbehill, Johne Montgomre of Cokilbe and William Woddrop, writer in Glasgow. Signed by the granter and witnesses. |
