Title |
Charter of Resignation under the Great Seal of Charles First with consent of John, Earl of Mar, treasurer, and Sir Archibald Naper of Merchingstoun, knight, treasurer-depute, granting to Sir James Levingstoun of Brighous, knight, his heirs and assignees whomsoever, the lands and barony of Levingstoun which were resigned by and described in the Procuratory of Resignation GD86/480: Moreover he of new erected the town of Levingstoun into a free burgh of barony to be called the Burgh of Levingstoun with powers to buy and sell, create burgesses etc. (as in R. M. S. VI No. 1548) and ordained that sasine taken at the peill and fortalice of Levingstoun should be sufficient for the whole subjects: To be held de nobis, for the rights and services used and wont; and taxing the ward at £86:13: 4 Scots and the marriage at 400 merks in respect of the taxation contained in the Charter R.M.S. VI. No. 1548 under the Great Seal of King James VI. in favor of the late Alexander, Earl of Linlithgow, and of the alienation of the lands of Wester Carribber annexed to the said barony granted by the said Earl and Dame Helen Hay, his spouse, to Henry Gib, servitor of King James VI. and confirmed by the said King by charter R.M.S.
