Title |
Procuratory of Resignation by Alexander, Earl of Lynlithgow, with consent of William Crichtoun elder of Drumcroce and William Crichtoun, younger, fiar thereof, his eldest lawful son, whereby in implement of a contract (of even date herewith) entered into between them, on the one part, and Sir James Levingstoun of Brighous, knight, brother of the granter, one of the gentlemen of His Majesty's private chalmer and colonel of an English Regiment under the estates of the United Provinces in Holland, on the other part, they constituted procurators (names blank) for resigning the lands and barony of Levingstoun, comprehending the burgh of barony or town of Levingstoun and mains thereof, with the tower and fortalice called the peill of Levingstoun, manor-place, mill etc., the lands of Breiche, Stanyburne, Carmondeines Eister and Wester, Cowsland, Newwarke and Parke, with the whole privileges and immunities contained in the charter R.M.S. VI. No.1548 (dated at Quhythall 18 December 1604) granted by King James VI to the late Alexander, Earl of Linlithgow, all lying within the parish of Levingstoun and sheriffdom of Linlithgow, into the hands of the King in favor of the said Sir James Levingstoun and his heirs and assignees whomsoever. Witnesses, Walter Cornuell of Bonhard, Johnne Levingstoun of Hanyng, Robert Ker, sheriff clerk of Linlithgow, James Carmichell of Pottischaw, Johnne Nemoch in Drumcroce, James Mwre, servitor to the said Johnne Levingstoun of Hanyng, Thomas Callendar and Andro Rattrey, servitors to the said Earl, Johnne Cuthbertsone, servitor to the said Sir James Levingstoun and David [? Wemys].
Seal gone. Signed by the granters, consenters and five witnesses.
In dorso:- Memorandum by the said Robert Ker, notary, narrating that on 18th March 1626 James Dowglas, macer, as procurator for the Earl of Lynlithgow resigned the above subjects into the hands of Sir George Hay of Kynfawnis, chancellor, and of the other lords of the Privy Council sitting in council in the Laigh Council-house of the burgh of Edinburgh, in favour of Sir James Levingstoun, Humphrey Dowie, clerk, procurator for Sir James asked instruments.
