Title |
Letter of Reversion (defective) by Johne Carstairis, lawful son of [Johne Carstairis, provost] of Sanct Androis, and Anna Rae, his spouse, with consent of the said Johne Carstairis, elder, Mr. Alexander Morisone, advocate, Katherine Morisone, mother of the said Anna Rae, and Mr. James Carstairis, son-in-law of the said Johne Carstairis, elder, granting that the lands and barony of Levingstoun with the manor place etc., lying in the sheriffdom of Linlithgow, which were sold to them by contract (dated 27, 28, 29, and 31 May 1624) entered into between them and Alexander, Earl of Linlithgow, should be redeemable on payment of the sum of twenty thousand merks Scots within the parish kirk of Edinburgh called St. Geillis Kirk at that part thereof where the tomb of James, Earl of Murray, is situated, on sixty days warning; consignation if necessary to be in the hands of the thesaurer or dean of guild of Edinburgh. It was also provided that the subjects should not be redeemed until the yearly maill of two thousand merks contained in the back tack of the said lands and the liquidate expenses mentioned in the contract should be first paid or consigned. Witnesses, Johnne Levingstoun, burgess of Edinburgh, Johnne Leirmont, writer to the signet, Alexander Cas, notary, and David Carstairis, servitor to the said Johne Carstairis, elder.
Signed by the granters two of the consenters and witnesses. Johne Carstairis, elder, who cannot write, signs by the hand of John Leirmont, notary public. Registered in the Particular Register of Sasines for Edinburgh 21 July 1624. Vol. 9, fol. 164. |
