Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of Robert Ker, clerk, of the diocese of St. Andrews, notary public, following upon and narrating a precept from the chancery of King James VI (dated at Edinburgh 5th June, 1622) addressed to the sheriff and his bailies of Linlythtqw, for infefting Allexander, Earl of Linlythtqw, as heir of Allexander, Earl of Linlythqw, his father, in (1) the lands and barony of Levingstoun containing the town of Levingstoune with the mains thereof, the tower and fortalice of the same called the "peill" (at which sasine could be taken for the whole lands), manor-place, mill, and mill lands, the lands of Breich, the lands of Stannyburne (as well that part thereof acquired from the late Patrick Hammiltoune of Levingstoune as the 6 merk 8 shilling and 4 penny land of the same acquired from John Murray of Blakbarony) as principal, and the 7 merkland of the town and lands of Levingstoune (formerly occupied by the late Thomas Aldio [? Aldie], Alexander Aldio [? Aldie] and William Vchiltrie) in special warrandice thereof, the lands of Carmoundennis Eister and Wester Cousland, Newwark and Park, lying within the bailiary of Linlythtqw and all united and incorporated into a lordship and barony to be called in all time coming the barony of Levingstoune; and (2) the town of Levingstoune erected into a free burgh of barony to be called the burgh of Levingstoune; and commanding them to take security for £80 Scots of relief for said lands and barony. Sasine given by Sir Walter Dundas of that Ilk, knight, sheriff principal of the sheriffdom of Linlythtqw, at the said "peill" and fortalice of Levingstoune, on 7th June 1622, to Thomas Callendar, uncle of Sir William Callendar, formerly of Ballincloicht, knight, attorney for the earl |

The Instrument is written by Peter Robertsone, servitor of the notary. Registered in the Particular Register of Sasines for the sheriffdom of Edinburgh and on 31st July 1622 - Vol. 6 fol. 202. |
