Title |
Instrument of Resignation and Sasine under the hand of John Masoun, common clerk of the burgh of Air, notary public, narrating that Jonet Grier, daughter and heir of the late George Grier, burgess of Air, who was infeft in the tenement aftermentioned conform to Instrument of Sasine in her favor dated 20th July 1604, in view of the marriage to be contracted between her and John Cauldwell, merchant, burgess of Air, of her own free will and in name of tocher resigned her tenement of land, back and fore, under and above, with yard and pertinents, which pertained to her father and formerly to William Reddell and George Cuningham, lying on the east side of the High Street of the burgh of Air, between the tenement formerly the property of John Pettercruif and Thomas Stenestoun, now of John Makilweyan, and the heir of the late Simon Gilmour, mariner, on the south, and the tenement formerly the property of George Blair now of William Rysysd and Adam Johnestoun, pedlar, on the north, into the hands of John Stewart, one of the bailies of said burgh, in favour of herself and the said John Cauldwell, her future spouse, and the longer liver of them in conjuct infeftment and the heirs to be lawfully procreated between them, whom failing, the heirs and assignees of the said John whomsoever; to whom the bailie gave sasine accordingly upon the ground of the said tenement on 6th May 1618: To be held of the king in free burgage for service of burgh used and wont: Moreover, the said Jonet Grier, outwith the presence of her husband, and in the presence of the said bailie, gave her great and bodily oath that she was neither compelled or co-acted to grant said resignation but that she did so of her own free will |
