Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of Mr. Francis Hay, clerk, of the diocese of St. Andrews, notary public, following upon and narrating a precept of sasine in a charter (dated at Edinburgh 26th June 1617) by Sir Gedeon Murray of Elibank, knight, granting to Dame Margaret Pentland his spouse, in liferent, in full satisfaction of her terce, (1) his 4 husband-lands and brew-lands in Ballincreif with houses, buildings, yards, dovecots etc. (formerly possessed and occupied by Alexander Richardsoun, brother-german of Sir James Richardsoun of Smetoun, knight, and his subtenants), and that piece of land in Ballincreif called the half-merk-land with pertinents (formerly occupied by the late Sir John Murray of Eddilstoun, knight, and his subtenants), lying in the territory of Ballincreif, constabulary of Hadingtoun and sheriffdom of Edinburgh; and (2) his lands of Powerhow alias Proro and that part of the lands of Fortoun and Fentoun lying between the lands of West Fortoun on the east, the lands of Byris on the west, the lands of Elstanefurde and the said lands of West Fortoun on the south, and the lands of Congiltoun and Eist Fortoun on the north, with pasturage of 200 sheep, 20 oxen and 2 horses in the common of Kingstoun and free ish and entry thereto, and with the teinds of the said lands of Powerhow, Fortoun, and Fentoun included, lying within the lordship of Newbottle, constabulary and sheriffdom foresaid. Witnesses to charter, William Murray of Dunerne, Sir Henry Wardlaw of Pitravie, knight, Sir Patrick Murray of Langschaw, knight, and James Kynneir, Writer to the Signet. Witnesses to the sasine James Wilsoun, Patrick Borthuik, and Thomas Sinclair, indwellers in the town of Ballincreif, Robert Murray, indweller in the burgh of the Canongate near Edinburgh, and Robert Murray, indweller of the burgh of Dundee. The charter is written by Mr. Francis Hay, servitor of James Kynneir, Writer to the Signet. The Instrument of Sasine is registered in the Particular Register for the Sheriffdom of Edinburgh on 28 August 1617. Vol. I fol. 17. |
