Title |
Charter by Thomas, Lord Bynning, Secretary to the King, whereby on the narrative that the templar lands of Coleistoun lying in the sheriffdom of Fyff, which formerly pertained to Mariot Spence, relict of James Bellenden of Spittell and James Bellenden, their son and heir, were apprised from them at the instance of Mr. Alexander Levingstoun, advocate, to whom they were assigned and disponed, conform to process of apprising led thereupon dated 7th and approved by the Lords of Council 21 December 1614, and in obedience to letters directed from the said lords commanding him to infeft the said Mr. Alexander Levingstoun in said lands, he granted said lands to him his heirs and assignees whomsoever: To be held de nobis, rendering therefor on the morrow after the feast of Michaelmas at the Tempilhill near the burgh of Cupar 12 pence Scots of feu farm: Providing nevertheless that it should be lawful to the said Mariot Spence and James Bellenden to redeem said lands within 7 years from the date of the apprising on payment of the sums of money contained in the process of apprising with the expenses of infeftment: With precept of sasine addressed to John Williamesoun, indweller in Collestoun. Description |
Witnesses, John Crawfurd, James Monteith, Alexander Chrystesoune and Thomas Fraser, servitors of the granter. Signed by the granter and witnesses. The Charter is written by James Swane, brother of William Swane, writer to the signet. The seal (broken) of the granter is attached: On a chevron between three cinquefoils a buckle all within a bordure charged with eight thistles. Above the shield a peers helmet. Crest:- On a helmet with mantling and wreath, two dexter hands issuing from clouds clasped fessways holding between them a branch of laurel erect. Motto, on an escroll passing behind the Crest: [Praesto & P]ersto. Supporters:- [Two] hounds collared. Legend. Sigillvm Thomae Domini .............. Cf.
