Title |
Feu Charter by David, bishop of Ross, with consent of the dean, chapter and canons of the cathedral church of Ross, granting to Andrew Monro of Culnald, son and heir of the late David Monro of Culnald (ancient and native feuar and tenant of the lands underwritten) and his heirs male and assignees whomsoever (1) the town and lands of Nyg, with the brewhouse and brewhouse-croft thereof, extending to a davoch of land (2) the houses or "girnallis", back and fore under and above, with the pertinents, adjoining the wall of the cemetery of Nyg, with the custody of the place and manor of Nyg for the reception and convenience of the granter, his successors and officers, at their own expense, whenever they should happen to stay there and (3) the east half of the lands and town of Pitcalzeane extending to a half davoch of land (formerly possessed by Alexander Ferne and his predecessors) with the brewhouse and brewhouse-croft thereof, all lying within the diocese of Ross and sheriffdom of Innerness, and declaring that a sasine taken at the said "girnallis" of Nyg should be sufficient for the whole lands above conveyed: To be held de nobis, rendering for the lands of Nyg, £12:11/- Scots, a mart, 5 "muttones", 4 kids, 80 eggs, 18 capons, 18 poultry, a chalder barley, 10 bolls "custume et suggeroun aittis", 40 loads of "turffis" with arriages and services used and wont; for the houses or "girnallis", 4 shillings Scots; for the east half of Pitcalzeane, £4:16/- Scots, half a mart, 2 "muttones", 2 kids, 40 eggs, 6 capons, 6 poultry and 1 boll "custume aittis" with arriages and services used and wont; for the brewhouse and brewhousecroft of Pitcalzeane, 21/4 Scots, 1"mutton", 3 capons and 3 poultry; with whatever other duties are contained in the ancient rentals and in use to be paid for all the above lands: Moreover the grain growing upon said lands shall be ground at the mill of Morwech paying therefor the customary multures services and aids, and the grantee, or the possessors of the said lands of Pitcalzane, shall lead 40 loads of "peittis or turvis" (which are to be prepared by the granter) to the manse of Nyg when required to do so: Further the grantee is bound to furnish 4 horses with their necessaries for 3 days for leading the teind sheaves of the parishes of Nyg or Tarbett within the bishopric of Ross, beyond their side of Ross (extra latere Rossen. eorum), whenever required to that effect, and the tenants of said lands shall assist and labour to build repair and upkeep the "zair" of Kincardin proportionately to the rate and quantity of the plough and davoch lands of the barony of Nyg. The grantee and the tenants of said lands are to attend the courts of the granter to be held at the Chanonry of Ross and Nyg; the grantee and his heirs are to render three suits at the three head courts to be held at the Chanonry of Ross; and the heirs of the grantee are to pay a double of the above duties in the first year of their entry to said lands: With precept of sasine addressed to Finlay Mansoun, minister of Nig.
