Title |
Charter of Sale by William Chancellar of Scheilhill, elder, Robert Chancellar fiar of Scheilhill and Agnes Symontoun, his spouse, whereby, in implement of letters of obligation (dated 9th and [ ] November 1604 and 12th June 1606) granted by them to James Stewart, portioner of Strabrok, and for payment of the sum of 3000 merks specified therein, they granted to him (1) the 25 shilling lands called the Maynes of Scheilhill with tower, etc. (occupied by the said Robert Chancellar) and the town and lands of Ovir Quhothecon, extending to an £8:10/- land of old extent, with manor houses etc. (occupied by Peter Kello, John Thomesone, Thomas Gray, James Mosmain, Beatrice Treaplaw, Laurence Dicksone, Robert Treaplaw, Alexander Justice and James Robesone) and (2) in special warrandice and security thereof, the town and lands of Nether Quhothecon, extending to a £10 land of old extent, with houses etc. (occupied by James Chancellar, John Lyes, William Ram, James Aitkyn, James Wauche, Laurence Wauche, Thomas Carmichaell and James Douglas, elder of Clappertoun) all lying within the barony of Carnewathe and sheriffdom of Lannerk: To be held from the granters of John, Earl of Marr, Lord Erskin, their immediate superior, rendering therefor the duties used and wont and specified in the original infeftments; with clause of warrandice and precept of sasine addressed to James Baillie. Witnesses, James Douglas elder of Clappertoun, James Douglas Yr. of Clappertoun, his son, Mr. John Cheislie, minister of Quodquen, and John Hodge, servitor to the said James Douglas, elder: James Crystiesone, servitor of Anthony Quhyte, writer in Edinburgh, wrote the charter.
