Title |
Instrument under the hand of [John Andersoun, clerk of the diocese of Glasgow, notary public] narrating that Allane, Lord Cathcart, lord and baron of the lands and barony of Dalmellingtoun, past to his merkland of the Clauchane and Castelmark of Dalmellingtoun lying in the barony of Dalmellingtoun, Kingis Kyill and sheriffdom of Air, and there "at the [eist] end of the said Clauchane causit mett and mesuir ten fallis of land, to wit, fyve fallis lang and twa braid, begynand at the zeird dyke and north end callet Gilbert Mviris zaird, the aykir callit the ministeris aykir [at the eist] syde thairof, and the hie streit and way to Galloway by the west syed thairof; and also into his lordships Clauchanetoun thairof and thair causit mett and mvsour of the land and ground thairof threttie sex fwittis of lenth and twentie two fuittis of breid for bigging and building thairvpone, and merchit as followis, to wit, the [kirkdyik] merchis the southt pairt thairof, David Cathcart in the Clauchan his zaird and his houssis merchis the west pairt thairof, and the Clangait [ merches ] the north pairt thairof, and the hous of William Stevinsone, merchand in the Clauchane of Dalmellingtoun, his house merchis the eist pairt thairof": He thereupon, in terms of the Feu Charter (dated at Dalmellingtoun 10th August 1602) granted by him to the said William Stevensone, gave him sasine of the said lands, together with the house and booth thereof which he presently occupies, for bigging building and planting ad perpetuam remanentiam: To be held in feu farm for payment yearly of 20 shillings Scots. Witnesses, Gilbert Cathcart, lawful son of said Allane, Lord Cathcart, Robert Cathcart, his other son, Gabriell Cunynghame in Trevinax, Allane Cathcart of Drumsmoddane and David Cathcart [in the Clauchane of Dalmellingtoun].
Registered in the Secretary's Register for Ayrshire 14 August 1602-Vol. II, folio 10. The Instrument has been much injured by damp and parts of it are indecipherable. The words within square brackets are supplied from the Record copy. |
