Letter by James VI addressed to the provosts and bailies of Edinburgh, Glasgw, Lynlythgow, Air, Irwin, Stirling, Dumbertane and all other burghs of the realm, narrating that Captain Johne Hammiltoun has his licence to recruit four bands of companies of men of war for Flanders "to resist Goddis ennemeis in thay pairtis", and commanding them to permit him "to strek drummes and mak proclamatioun" through their burghs for uplifting said companies.
