Title |
Certified Copy of Retour of Inquest held in the tolbooth of the burgh of Cupar on 31st October 1588 by David Veland, burgess of the said burgh, sheriff depute of Fyiff, finding that David Meldrum of Segy was heir of the late James Meldrum of Segy, his father, in the lands of Newhall, with tower and manor, lying within the sheriffdom of Fyiff and by annexation in the barony of Fynnevin (N.E. £10,O.E.40s.) and in one-half of the lands of Segy with the principal manor of the same in the foresaid sheriffdom (N.E.£10, O.E. 40s.). It is stated that the lands of Newhall are held of David, Earl of Craufurd Lord Lyndesay, for payment of one penny of blench farm and that they were in the hands of the Earl for eight months or thereby, and that the lands of Segy were held of Alexander Crychtoun of Nauchtan during his life and after his decease of Alexander Crychtoun and his heirs for payment of twenty shillings Scots of annualrent for all services and aids that could be exacted from said lands which were in the hands of the superior for the said space of eight months |
