Title |
Letters of Horning under the Signet of King James VI, addressed to Nicoll Newall, narrating that it was shewn by Margaret Cairnis, Lady Orchartoun, spouse of Edward Maxwall of Tynwald, and the said Edward, for his interest, that she was in peaceable possession of the lands of Dargavell since the decease of her last husband until two years ago when Johnne and David, sons of the late James Scott in Dargavill and Bessy Carrutheris, their mother, after the burning of the complainers houses and dwelling in Dargavill by Johnne, lord Maxwall "his associatis and wageit men", set themselves down upon the room and possession of Dargavell with the assistance of Lord Maxwall and intromitted with the corn and plenishing thereon; and that they still continue in their violent and wrongous possession thereof, and threaten to trouble and molest the complainers in their peaceable possession, notwithstanding they had obtained letters and charges to possess the same again: The King therefore commands that the persons complained upon be charged to find sufficient and responsible sureties acted in the Books of the Secret Council that the complainers, their tenants and servants, should be harmless and scatheless in their bodies, lands, tacks, possessions, goods and gear under the penalty of £100.
