Title |
Letter of Reversion by Jasper Hume narrating that James Earl of Murray, Lord Abirnethy, had assigned to him a letter of reversion granted by Johne Hume of Blacader to his lordship for redemption of the lands of Ffischewik, with the havens, lochs and fishings thereof in the water and flood of Tuede, and the Hill of Sanct Eb called Sanct Ebbis-burght, with pertinents, lying in the barony of Coldinghame and sheriffdom of Beruik, by payment of £1000 Scots; and obliging himself, after the redemption of the said lands and others in terms of the said letter of reversion, to resign said lands in favour of the Earl on receiving from him the said sum of £1000 Scots and a letter of tack for 19 years after redemption for payment of the feu-maills and duties contained in the old infeftments made to the place of Coldinghame, to the receipt of which he was to receive 40 days warning; consignation if necessary to be in the hands of the thesaurar or dean of guild of the burgh of Edinburgh. It was further provided that the granter should not transfer the above letter of reversion to any person but should use the same for redemption of the said lands and should he not be able to redeem them to transfer the letter to the Earl of Murray should he desire to do so. Signed before 21 January 1569-70 by the granter whose seal is attached:- An ornamental shield bearing arms: 1st and 4th: A lion rampant. 2nd and 3rd: Three papingos. Foliage at top and sides of shield. Legend (Caps) S. Iasper. Hvme. The Earl of Moray was assassinated on 21 January 1569-70. |
