Title |
Ratification by the Convent and Sisters of the place of the Senis beside the burgh of Edinburgh narrating that the late Cristiane Bellenden, prioress of the said place, had consigned in the hands of Sir Johne Bellenden of Awchnovle, knight, for their "weill and commoditie" the sum of 1000 merks Scots, which they acknowledged was completely and fully bestowed on them "in our greit necessiteis and misteris in the trublis tyme": they thereupon ratified and confirmed the acquittance granted to Sir John by the prioress, and renounced any action they might have against him for non-payment of their part of said sum. After 5 July 1567. Witnesses, John Grahame and John Bannatyne, servitors to Sir John Bellenden.
The deed is signed by St. Kathrin Nesbet and Margret Dunbar, the latter of whom subscribed with her hand on the pen led by James Bannatyne, younger notary public. Cristiane Bellenden was alive on 5 July 1567. See Reg. Mag. Sig. 1546-1580 No. 1980. |
