Title |
Charter under the Great Seal of James II whereby, in praise and honour of God Almighty, the Virgin Mary, St. Duthac the Confessor and all the Saints and for the salvation of the souls of James I, his father, Joan, Queen of Scots, his mother, and Mary, Queen of Scots, his consort, and also of his own soul and the souls of his children and all his predecessors and successors, and for the increase of divine worship, he grants to God and to St. Duthac and to the chaplain celebrating divine worship in the Collegiate Church of St. Duthac of Tayne for his sustentation the lands of Dunskaith with pertinents lying in the lordship of Ardmanach and sheriffdom of Innirnis, together with an annual-rent of two merks Scots from the freight and profits of the port and ferry of Croma[r]ty. To be held in pure and perpetual alms ad manum mortuam. The said chaplain when appointed to the church is to celebrate mass daily at the high altar for the foresaid souls and at the beginning of each mass to exhort the people to say a pater noster with a Salutacione Angelica and to be present in the choir at matins high mass and vespers cum nota in his habit like the other chaplains of the church; and if he should happen to be promoted to a better benefice so that he was unable to minister in the said service personally the said chaplainry was to become vacant and the presentation to pertain to the granter and his successors and the collation to the bishops of Ross |
