Title |
Precept of Sasine by James, Earl of Mortoun, Lord of Dalkeith, addressed to James Williamsoun, and William How, bailies of his burgh and regality of Dalkeith, narrating that by inquest made at his command and retoured to his chapel, it was found that Robert Coldoun, was nearest and lawful heir to his brother, James Coldoun in the following lands lying in said regality and sheriffdom of Edinburgh, viz:- (1) a piece of land with the pertinents commonly called Seriandhauch lying in the territory or lordship of Dalkeith on the south side of the town thereof, between the yards (ortisima) or crofts of the husbandmen on the north and the Water of Sowthesk on the south, (2) that piece of land commonly called Joppis-aker with its pertinents, lying in said lordship on the south side of the Water of Esk between the land commonly called the Beirhauch on the west and the land of Swynfurde on the east, (3) two husbandlands, with the plain land (terra campestri) tofts and crofts thereof, lying in the said town and territory on the south side of the High Street (magni vici), one between the husband tenement of the late Agnes Tuedy on the east and the husband tenement of the late Hugh Coldoun on the west, and the other at the west end of the said town between the cottage tenement of the late David Cokkar on the east and the common vennel on the west (4) a husbandland with its tofts and crofts, lying on the south side of the High Street of said town between the tenement of the said Hugh Coldoun on the east and the tenement of the late Mr. Alexander Giffert on the west, and (5) an acre of land, containing a `but' in Beirhauch, Swynfurd, Sprettygair, Stanelaw, Meirbut, Wowp and Loynheid, lying "rindaill" in the said town and territory between the lands of the late Thomas Giffert on the west, and the lands of the heirs of John Tuedy on the east; and commanding his bailies to give him sasine thereof.
