Title |
Instrument of Cognition, Resignation and Sasine under the hands of James Danzelstoun, presbyter of the diocese of St. Andrews and John Robesoun, clerk of the diocese of Glasgow, notaries public, narrating that Robert Gib of Carriberis, the queen's principal bailie of her seaport of our Lady of Grace, commonly called Newhavin, passed to 2½ acres of land and their pertinents lying in said port within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh, between the lands which formerly pertained to Robert Bertoun of Ouirbertoun on the south and west, the king's common highway on the north and an acre pertaining to the altar of the Holy Blood on the east, and there cognosced and entered Jonet Gibsoun, spouse of Mr. William Logane, burgess of Glasgw, as heir of John Gibsoun, indweller in Leith, her father, to said lands and gave sasine thereof to her in terms of the charter granted to her; and that thereafter the said Jonet, with consent of her husband (present and consenting), resigned said lands in to the hands of the bailie in favour of Mr. Thomas Makcalzan, burgess of Edinburgh, and his heirs and assignees, to whom the said bailie gave sasine in terms of the royal charter to be granted to him. Further narrating that the said bailie passed to (1) an acre of land with pertinents living within the bounds of the said port and sheriffdom of Edinburgh, between the lands of the late William Bell on the east, the lands of the late James Thomsoun on the west, the head of the hillock and the drop-fall of the same [monticulum et stillicidium] on the north, and the king's common highway on the south, (2) 6 particates of land with their pertinents lying within the bounds of said port and sheriffdom, between the lands of the said James Thomsoun on the east, the king's common highway on the south, the land of the late John Andersoun on the west, and the head of the hillock and drop-fall of the same on the north, and (3) to 7 particates of land with their pertinents lying contiguous, between the lands of the late Patrick Broanschelis on the east; the lands of the late Robert Andersoun, baker, on the west, the king's common highway on the south, and descending to the ebb of the sea on to the dry land on the north, and that there the said William Logane, with consent of his said spouse, conjunct fiar thereof, resigned said lands, containing about 2 acres, into the hands of the bailie in favour of the said Mr. Thomas Makcalzan, his heirs and assignees, to whom the bailie gave sasine in terms of the charter to be granted to him. Moreover, the said Jonet, outwith the presence of her husband, consented to the transaction and gave her oath that she would never revoke the same in time coming.
