Title |
Procuratory of Resignation by Mr. John Spens of Maristoun, constituting Mr. John Spens, rector of Kirkcrist, his procurator for resigning his lands of Coleistoun, with pertinents, lying in the sheriffdom of Eyfe, into the hands of the Queen or her tutor, James Earl of Arran, Lord Hammyltoun, protector and governor of the kingdom, in favour of William Chalmer, son and heir of the late John Chalmer of Drumlochtquhy, and Ewfame Spens, his spouse, and the longer liver of them in conjunct infeftment, and the heirs to be lawfully procreated of their bodies, whom failing, the lawful and nearest heirs or assignees of the said William whomsoever; and that in terms of a contract entered into between the resigner and `the said William Chalmer, which was registered in the Books of the Lords of Council on 8th July 1549. In dorso:- Instrument of Resignation under the hand of Peter Spens, clerk of the diocese of St. Andrews, notary public, following upon and narrating the resignation authorised to be made by the above procuratory. Done in the palace or lodging of the governor within the town of Edinburgh on 6 September 1550. Witnesses, Archibald, Earl of Argyll, Arthur Hamiltoun, lord of Prestoun, Andrew Hamiltoun of Ardoch and William Curll. |
