Title |
Letters of Confirmation by James Houston, sub-dean, and Archibald [Dunbar] succentor, and canons of the Metropolitan Church of Glasgow, commissioners appointed, together with the precentor of Glasgow, by letters from Antony, bishop of Sabine, and penitentiary of Pope Paul III, dated at St. Peter's, Rome, 11 February 1543-4 (narrated in full), reciting and, after due citation and appearance of the parties interested, confirming a Feu Charter (dated at the Monastery of Failfurd, [?6th] 16 October 1543) by Robert, minister of Failfurd, of the Order of the Holy Trinity and Redemption of the Captives, of the diocese of Glasgow and provincial general of said Order within the kingdom of Scotland, and the convent thereof, whereby, in consideration of the sum of 500 merks Scots, they granted to William Conyghame of Conyghameheid and Elizabeth Conyghame, his spouse, and the longer liver of them in conjunct infeftment and the heirs lawfully procreated or to be procreated between them, whom failing, to the heirs or assignees of the said William whomsoever, (1) the five merkland of old extent of Nethir Carbello and the five merkland of same extent of Bogheid with pertinents (occupied by James Wallace of Dulleris), lying within the lands of Carbello, King's Kile and sheriffdom of Air, and standing in their rental at 17 merks Scots and (2) the five pound land of old extent of Auldtoun of Corsby and the mill thereof with its pertinents (viz: liberty of wattirdraucht, waylaid, dammyn and the house of said mill, together with the astricted multure commonly called the "twenty ane fatt" in use to be paid to said mill from the lands of Symontoun, Wausfurd, Hillous and Corsbe) and the fishing of the Trune, lying in the bailiary of Kille Steward and sheriffdom of Air, and standing in their rental at £17: 6:8. To be held de nobis, rendering yearly the sum of twenty merks Scots for the lands of Nethir Carbello and Bogheid, being an augmentation of 3 merks on the old rental, the sum of £21: 6: 8 Scots for the lands of Auldtoun of Corsby, mill thereof, and fishing of the Trune, being an augmentation of £4 on the old rental, together with 24 salmon, and doubling the said feu-fermson the first year of the entry of the heirs or assignees of the grantees thereto |

Johannes Moffett manu ppria, Johannes Allansoun manu propria., fr. Robertus Gaw manu propria, frater Alexr. Menzeis manu propria, frater Hector Houssoun manu propria. The Letters also narrate at length (1) Instrument of Sasine (dated 7 October 1543) under the hand of James Craufurd, presbyter of the diocese of Glasgow, notary public, following upon and narrating a precept of sasine (dated 6 October 1543) by the said Robert, minister of Failfurd, addressed to Ninian Berclaye and William Levinstoun, his bailies in that part, for infefting the said William Conyghame and spouse in terms of the preceding charter: Sasine given by the said Ninian Berclaye to James Arbukil, attorney for the said William Conyghame and spouse (constituted by letters of attorney from Chancery dated at Edinburgh 2 October 1543) of the lands of Nethir Carbello and Bogheid [Witnesses to the precept, Sir James Craufurd, vicar of Kilbride, Robert Conyghame, James Arbukile and John Strachil. Witnesses to the sasine, William Levingstoun, Robert Conyghame, ...... Gilcrist]; and (2) Instrument of Sasine (dated 6 October 1543) under the hands of the same notary proceeding on the precept of sasine supra: Sasine given by Ninian Berclaye to James Arbukil, attorney aforesaid, of the lands of Auldtoun of Corsby and mill thereof with pertinents, and fishing of the Trune. [Witnesses William Levingstoun, Robert Conyghame, William Gardinar, John Strachil, Mathew Quhit and Alexander Gilcrist]. The Letters of Confirmation which are dated at Glasgow 9th February 1545-6, are authenticated by David Gybsoun, Master of Arts, presbyter of the City of Glasgow, notary public, and depute-clerk in the process, Witnesses, Sir James Walkar, vicar of Kilmodane, Mr. Robert Houstoun, clerk, Mr. John Houstoun, clerk, James Cammeroun, James [Wch]tir, Robert Reche, and Sir Robert Merschel, presbyter.
