Title |
Instrument under the hand of Robert Angyll, presbyter, of the diocese of St. Andrews, notary public by apostolic authority, narrating that David Browce of Clakmannan, knight, compeared in his presence and declared that although Alexander, abbot of Cambuskynet and rector of Clakmannan, was accustomed to send certain men at time of harvest to his (Browce's) manor of Clakmannan and his lands lying round about and to the tenants and occupiers of his lands of Clakmannan to value and ride their crops for the current year with the past no one has come in name of the abbot and convent to teind their grain, so that it stands unteinded after the leading of their neighbours grain and is in danger of perishing unless it is led and placed in their yards. He therefore solemnly protests, in name of himself and the tenants of his barony, that they should not pay to the abbot and convent for said teinds this year unless for the quantity that their neighbours, who knew and saw the said teinds and grain upon the said lands, depone and certify upon according to their faith and oath, or otherwise that the abbot and convent defalce to him and his tenants as they did to other neighbours and parishioners of said parish, and that because the abbot only lets the teinds of said parish from year to year. Done in the cemetery of the parish church of Clakmannan on 8th September 1545 |
