Description |
Relating to the following lands and persons, viz:-
1. The barony of Alyth, 1468-1714.
2. The town and davoch lands of Avoch and Knockmuir called Wester Farnese, 1681-1749, disponed by James Cuthbert, merchant in Inverness, with consent of Margaret Mackenzie, his wife, to Lieutenant John Mackenzie, son of [ ] Mackenzie of Grunzeard, and Mrs. Geddes Mackenzie, his wife. At Milcraig 30th [torn] 1754. Witnesses, Mr. George Fearn, merchant in Tain, and Donald Mackenzie, servant to the said Lieut. John Mackenzie. The Inventory is written by John Gray, clerk to John Mackenzie of Delvin, W.S.
3. The lands of Avondale, Hutton, Hoddam, Kirkgunzeon, Kirkcudbright, Kirkpatrick, Nether Kirkcudbright, Lockerbie, Moffitdale, Mortounwode, Portract, Skails, Smallholme, Terregles, Tundergarth, Terrauchtie, Nether Warrambie and Breckensyde, 1468-1730.

8. The lands of Borthwicksheills and Robertoun and that pendicle of Robertoun called Robertoun Cleughfoot, sometime pertaining to Walter Scott of Wooll and afterwards to Alexander Scott of Gallalaw, 1533-1726.

11. The barony of Callendar, 1685-1713. The Inventory was produced by Alexander Glen of Longcroft for instructing the claim offered by him to the Commissioners of Enquiry.

Writs (1) in the possession of the deceased William Carnegie, writer in Edinburgh, and afterwards of Mr. James Colvill, advocate, 1655-1679; and (2) relating to the baronies of Corstorphin and Gairdon in their possession which were the property of the deceased Sir Peter Wedderburn of Gosfoord, 1654-1681.
13. The half lands and barony of Clovay "which belonged to the Earles of Craufurd and wer disponed be them to David Lindsay of Lethnet whois successor was called of Barneyeards", 1468-1670.
14. The lands of Collilaw and Bourhouses, 1503-1607.

24. The Abbeys of Dryburgh and Inchmahome, 1284-1548. The writs were in the hands of Lady Cardross and the Inventory is in the handwriting of George Crawfurd (See `Liber de Dryburgh', p. xv. n. 5.)
25. The lands of Dumbarnie, Fordell, Blairstrowie, Dewglie, Arngosk, Kintullo, Newburn, Drummeldrie, Hollaiker, Balchristie, Lawhill, Melgum and Langreins belonging to Mr. John Craigie of Dumbarnie, advocate, "as bundeld up the 1st of May 1733".
26. The lands of Fairntoun, 1671-1751. The Inventory is relative to a disposition, dated 10th and 26th October 1751, of the lands by Mr. John Drummond, lawful son of the late James, Earl of Perth, with consent of Mungo Maxton of Cultowhey, to Patrick Campbell of Monzie and is dated at Edinburgh 28th November 1752. Witnesses, Robert Watt, writer in Edinburgh, and John Tait, his clerk.
27. The lands of Wester Falside, 1306-1630.

29. Search for Incumbrances over the lands of Meikle and Little Harlaws in the parish of Haliburton, the property of Home of Kaims. Certified by James Smith.

32. The lands and estate of Huntly and of subjects in the burgh of the Canongate, 1628-1652.
33. One-third part of the £4 land of the town and lands of Huttoun, 1615-37. The writs were delivered by Patrick Lumisdene of Blanerne to Alexander Home, portioner of Aytoun, and Johne Home, his son, conform to letters of disposition in their favour of 2 husbandlands of the said third part, and the Inventory is dated at Aytoun and Edrem 15 and 16 May 1648. Witnesses, Alexander Home, servitor in Sklaitehous in Aytoun, George Todrig, notary there, Robert Ker of Shawe, Harie Carmichaell of Edrem and Mr. Johne Home of Bellitawe.
34. The lands and baronies of Innerweik and Thorntoun, 1494-1679, sold by John Wedderburn of Gosfoord to Sir John Nisbit of Dirletoun, knight: dated at Edinburgh 7th August 1682. Witnesses, Mr. Thomas Leirmont, advocate, Archibald Law, servant to the said John Wedderburn, James Hay, W. S., and Archibald Kinloch, his servitor.
35. Wynne Johnston of Hilton, 1643-1778.
36. The barony of Kenmure, 1267-1733.
37. Writs upon which the lands of Kers were to be adjudged, 1655-86.
38. Writs left by Mr. Androw Dalrymple with "my lord or the fewaris within Kylismur and Barmure", 1505-1632.

41. The lands called the Kings Wark in Leith, 1564-1632. The writs were delivered by Sir Patrick Murray of Elibank, knight, on behalf of Barbara Logane, relict of Bernard Lindsay of Lochehill, and Captain Thomas Lindsay, their son, to William Dik of Braid, merchant, burgess of Edinburgh, and Mr. John Dik, his eldest lawful son. The Inventory is dated at Edinburgh 1st and 2nd September 1635. Witnesses, Patrick Scott, writer, Mungo Law and William Schilthomas, servitors to the said William Dik. The Inventory was written by Laurence Abernethie, servitor to Mr. Francis Hay of Balhoussie, W. S.
42. The lands and barony of Lochend, 1479-1671, which were sold by Sir John Colquhoune of Luss, Bart., Dame Margaret Bailzie, his wife, and Walter Stirling of Ballagone to Sir Robert Sinclare of Longformacus, Bart., Advocate, conform to disposition, dated 1st March 1676.
43. The lands and barony of Lochend, 1540-1642, which were disponed by Sir Robert Sinclair of Longformacus, with consent of Dame Christian Cockburn, his wife, to George Warrander, merchant in Edinburgh, and one of the bailies thereof.
44. The lands and barony of Lochend, the commonty teind sheaves of the Collegiate Church of Dunbar and 2½ rigs of Newtonleyes, 1620-1698.

The lands of Mugdrum, Redinch and certain acres of land in the territory of Newburgh, 1493-1738, sold by Mr. Henry Barclay of Cullerny, Advocate, with consent of Alexander, Lord Lindores, to Peter Hay, younger of Leys. At Edinburgh and Mugdrum 3rd and 19th October 1743. Witnesses, Sir James Stewart of Goodtrees, Bart., Mr. James Carnegy, yr. of Boysack, Advocate, Mr. Patrick Ross of Innernethie, Advocate, James Hay of Pitfour and David Gall, writer in Edinburgh.
52. Writs belonging to Mr. John Moncreife, one of the ministers of Edinburgh, who acquired right to them from John Mitchell of Balbardy, 1689-1706.

Witnesses, James Graham, writer in Edinburgh, and John Crawfurd, servitor to the said Hew Dalrymple.

The lands of Smailhome, 1408-1637: with receipt by Andro Scot of Fowlsheills for the writs from Mr. David Heriot, advocate, "be warrand of" Robert Pringill of Blindlie dated at Edinburgh 29th April 1644. Witnesses, Patrick Scot of Thirlstane and George Skougall, servitor to the said Mr. David Heriot.
63. The lands of Smellholme, 1560-1698. The lands pertained to Mr. William Donaldson and Mr. Thomas Donaldson, minister of Smellholm, his father, and afterwards to Elizabeth and Margaret Donaldson, children of the deceased John Donaldson, sometime merchant in Montrose. There is a receipt (unsigned) on the back by James Don of Smellholm granting that he had received from John Strachan, W.S., on behalf of the said Elizabeth and Margaret, and of William Naper of Toyack, Thomas Kinneir and John Auchterlony, merchants in Montrose, their curators, the writs contained in the Inventory: dated at Edinburgh 26th October, 1698. Witnesses, Nicoll Nisbet, servitor to the said John Strachan, and Andrew Don, son of the said James Don.
64. The lands of Easter and Wester Spittell, Stand-The-Lane, Westmains of Ballancrief, Westmains of Reidhouse, Myretoune and baronies of Innerweeke, Dunglass and Thorntoun etc., 1623-74.
65. The lands of Spitltowne in the parish of Caldercleir and sheriffdom of Edinburgh, 1494-1667, disponed by William Blackwood of Spitletoune, merchant, burgess of Edinburgh, Agnes Burdoun, his spouse, and Mr. Robert Blackwood, their son, to Charles Maitland of Haltoun. At Edinburgh 19th June 1667. Witnesses, John Falconer, Master of the Mint, John Falconer, Warden of the Mint and Mr. James Lauder, servitor to Mr. David Watson, W.S.

Witnesses, John Pringle, W.S., James Stoddart, tenant in Walstoun, John Duncan, clerk to the said John Pringle and John Brown, servant to the said George Lockhart. The Inventory is written by William Sutherland, servitor to Robert Gray, writer in Edinburgh.
73. The "vouchers of extinction and conveyances of the debts and other instructions of payment of the price of the estate of Walstoun down to Martimass one thousand seven hundred and thirty two made by the deceast George Lockhart of Carnwath to the deceast John Baillie of Walstoun and his creditors", 1679-1732. At Edinburgh and Dryden 1st December 1752. Witnesses, same as in preceding Inventory. |
