Including: (1) Journal of a voyage in convoy from Greenock to New York via Boston and Halifax on board a troop transport; and also a list of naval signals and their meaning. 12 April-4 August 1776. (2) General, regimental and battalion orders with a journal of operations in the vicinity of New York. Also included are a list of the field officers of the Corps de Reserve and the 3rd and 4th Brigades, the order of battle for the British campaign in 1776, and the old and new order of Battle for the 1777 campaign, dated 12 and 24 June respectively. 30 June-17 November 1776. (3) Expedition to Rhode Island and operations in New Jersey. 25 November 1776-13 June 1777. (4) Operations in the vicinity of Philadelphia under Gen. Cornwallis. 13 June 1777-6 January 1778. (5) As above and life in New York. 30 January 1778-27 April 1779. (6) Evacuation of Philadelphia and operations based on New York, along the north east coast. 15 June-17 November 1778. (7) Operations in the vicinity of New York. 28 April-30 September 1779. (8) As in (7) and the start of an expedition to Charlestown. 1 October 1779-7 February 1780. (9) Siege of Charlestown. 8 February-12 April 1780. (10) Siege and capture of Charlestown, return to Staten Island, and operations from there. 13 April-26 June 1780. (11) Operations in the vicinity of New York and reports of the desertion from the Americans of General Benedict Arnold and hanging of Major Andre by the Americans. 27 June 1780-12 January 1781. (12) Life in New York. 17 January-5 October 1781. (13) Abortive expedition for the relief of Gen. Cornwallis and his army at Yorktown. The journal ends as Capt. Peebles boards a ship to return to Scotland, having sold out his commission. 6 October 1781-2 March 1782. |
