(1) Letter from John Peebles to his father John Peebles in Irvine, enclosing a bill for £40 and informing him that he expects to pay the money he owes him within a year. Douglas, Isle of Man, 2 July 1771. (2) Letter as above, informing him of an expedition into New England under General Tryon and Sir William Erskine. Brunswick, New Jersey, 7 May 1777. (3) Letter as above stating "the Admiral is still watching the french fleet .... Mr. Washington is on the other side of the North River within a few miles and has a stronger army in the field than he has had these two years." New York, 30 August 1780. |
