Description |
Dated at Dallfuir. Regarding the efforts of the laird of McDougall to have the suspected criminal, McAllvory, freed from imprisonment, and the writer's annoyance at the said laird's actions, which hinder the making of a "confession" by the suspect. Although there is no evidence to be led against McAlvory, "I make no doubt of his being the theif, nor doe I question that the fellow would ... have confessed the stealing of that money ... before this tyme if McDougall had not encouradged him ... I leave yow to judge what effects such ane assureance would have upon a villain naturally stubborn who wanted rather to be discouradged in order to bring him to a confession ... I hope ... that youl appoynt him such an appartment at Inverary as his villainous character intitles him to ... |
