Description |
Dated at Edinburgh. 1722, October 3. Explaining legal requirements for recipient to complete his title to lands held by his late father, and also to those held base by his [late] brother, to whom he is also heir.
1727, February 9. Discussing in detail the draft marriage contract between John Campbell of Balliveolan and Isobel Stewart, in which recipient is apparently involved as a cautioner.
"I congratulate yow on the increase of your family and I hope your lady is now fairly recovered ..."
1732, January 7. Re the terms and conditions upon which recipient's son Donald, has been apprenticed to Dr. McFarlan. He admits that the apprentice fee is more than it might have been, but "I must own that I am not the fittest to cheapen bargains of this kind, because I allways think the best is ay the best cheap ... These things which I looked upon to be advantages to your son made me go the easier into the Doctors terms, which I found not so high as others in this place took, particularly Hope, Monro, McGill and Congalton, who are indeed the first in the place for skill and business, and I thought it was best to steer a midle course ... |
