Dated at Edinburgh, etc 1727, December 1. "Im heartily grieved to hear of you and my mother's being tender this winter, but I hope youl soon recover ... We are very happily settled as to our quarters with Mr. William Murray's daughter, who is a mighty civil woman ..." Gives details of the instruction they are receiving.
1731, November.
He has delivered "Mary and her cash" safely to Lady Greenyairds, but that she will soon go to Mrs. Sim "who keeps a very good boarding school". Gives details of Donald's indenture with Mr. McPharlan, cherurgeon, "... pays 700 merks the half when he enters and the other half against Martinmass next besides five guineas to his landlady, for which he has insight into cherurgery and bed board but no washing which no cherurgeon apprentice in Edinburgh has ..."

1732, February 19. Regarding the provision of farms for himself and his brother "to learn ferming".
With an answer, 23 March 1728, asking if he is now well enough to come home, and suggesting that he could be carried home, if necessary. "I am as anxious to have yow at home as yow can be to come Tho I think it more reasonable to have a little patience ... then [ than] to riske your life in cold weather and a long journey in the condition yow was in quhen yow wrot last ... I have not wryten to any body at Perth that I have any thoughts of carieing yow home neither need yow speak of it till I hear from yow ... |
