Dated at Inveraray. 1730, February, 15. "I received your letter of the 13th concerning the new schemes that are formed without regarde to the factory of Ardnamurchan, I am at a loss that I have not a list of the creditors, and know few or none of them save Sir Duncan ..." Discusses possible choice of a factor by the creditors.
1732, May 10. Explaining that the controversy over their marches between Skipness and himself has now been submitted to the arbitration of "Sir Duncan" [Campbell of Lochnell] and Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck; and asking recipient to mention to Sir Duncan a few ideas about the case suggested by the writer, but "let it be as from yourself entirely ..."

1732, June 15. Soliciting recipient's support in dispute with Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreak about the collection of the cess.
1732, October 17. Offering help to any of recipient's friends wishing to settle in Mull or Morvern. "If I see you in Lorn, I shall tell you more of the Duke's inclinations. You know the rents must be augmented for it pushes people on to Industry, which improves the land ..."
1732, December, 18. Dealing mainly with writer's efforts to persuade Ballimore to agree to share any land set to him in Mull with recipient. "He seem'd a little jumbl'd at my speaking and urging the thing so much. He promised to converse or write to you upon this subject, which I suppose is done ..."
1736, June 7. Giving advice to be passed on to the young laird of McDugald in his dealings with his creditors. "As he has so near a concern in your family, I chose to take notice of this matter to you, before I wou'd allow Gallanach to pursue any other measures ... |
