'I can assure you that all the ships Mr. Raulinson expected this year came to Corpich some time agoe; but did not bring one botle for Mr. Drumond ... I have been also dissapointed in botles I commissioned from Bristol, and there is not one to be had at Marybrough ..."
1736, January 3. Giving brief account of "that affair of Barisdle" who, despite the efforts of Culdars, Glenbuckett and several friends was dragged away by the Town Guard to be imprisoned in the Tolbooth of Edinburgh "in his scarlet close all covered with lace". Culdars later managed to have him released on a bail of 3,000 marks. "...there are Messengers going very soon to Glengary to summon more witnesses in regard to Angus Kennedy's torture and the french machine is to be brought from the Laird's house to Edinburgh by ane order from the Lords of Justiciary..." |
