1717, January 31. Announces death of Colin Campbell of Carwhin, 'this morning betuixt 4 and 5', when Barcaldine 'lost a true Comerad and I lost a second father'; the cause of his death was gout, although his doctors thought it was the gravel; 'he is to be burryed in the grayfriers church in a few days, and thereafter his will is to be unsealed in presence of the Lord Glenorchy, Fonab, Monzy, and Duchray who with Lord Poltoun, Captain James Menzeis, old Arddonaig and yourself are named tutors and curators to his Brother-son Colin and his sister as I have good reason to beleive. This will was made the year yow and he went to the Bath, whereby his nephew Colin is to be his aire and executor with the burden of some legacys and Duchray is appointed sine quo non'. |
