1698, June 10. Regarding the Earl of Breadalbane's order to supply meal and malt to recipient in view of the said Earl's intended visit in a few days. ".... trewlie its two [sic] late for I have not a peck of aither to give .... nor did I expect but my Lord would provyd for his quarters at Castle Kelchurn utherwayes. I doubt not Ile be thought ane ill stewart and perhaps called worse by many than I am ... I confess trewlie ther is a great oversight in this (.) I am vexed for it but ther is no releeff to be had hier or at Dowart ...."
1701, October 25. About "Barbrecks affair with Ardsheall, the pleasant manadgment quherof his Lordship seems to devolve on yow and me ...." Discusses what steps to take.
1708, February 23. Re various estate matters, including the business involving Ardchattan [see no. 629 infra]. Also comments on "Mr. Colin's" illness in London [probably Colin Campbell of Ardmaddie]. "I conclud he is a gone man, for all his freinds ther beleeve he is so far gone on in decay he cannot recover ...."
1708, March 20. Has received a letter from "Mr. Colin" [probably Colin Campbell of Ardmaddie]. ".... he seems to have good thoughts of his own condition and desyrs to repair [to] Ardmadie for his staying hier all summer ...."
Mentions report that 100 French ships had been seen off Dunbar, and that a landing is expected in the North. "I shall be ambitious of entertaining a constant correspondence with yow on all emergencies .... |
