Enclosing copy letter from Archibald Cockburne, Lord Justice Clerk, to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, regarding the outbreak of plague in the Isle of Man, and measures to be taken to prevent its spreading into Scotland. ".... It does seem absolutely necessar that your coast be watched and guarded against any boats that may come from the Isle of Man or vessells from the Mediterranean or any part of France ... the greatest danger being from boats that runn goods who will readily pretend they are come from Ireland or other places not infected ....
