Description |
Being a journal of the Dunkirk squadron in the late intended invasion against Scotland.
Relates failure of expendition to take Edinburgh Castle and the regalia, and to crown the Old Pretender; `The prince suffered much in his health and what with fatigue and chagerin look's very thin but to put a good face on the matter dress'd himself very fine in ane imbroyder'd sute and a Bleu feather in his hat, when we went ashoar where he was received by abundance of Ladies in there Coaches with looks that put me in mynde of ane English funerall. When he went off the noyse was all over, Long Live the King, but at our returne, shrugging our shoulders and sheaking of heads, quite a dismall Wellcome'
