1841, June 1. Aberdour, Fife. 'Here am I as if by a magician's wand transported from all that is beautiful and grand in Argyll to all that is plebiean and dirty in Fife'.
1843, April 4. Portobello. Is now postmaster at Portobello at £35 a year: 'it appears to have created an immense sensation among the petticoat dowagers and maidens, as I understand never was seen such a constant inundation of those interesting articles since a post office was first located in Portobello. How flattering!!'. |
