Description |
1831, January 26. `The duchess of Hamilton has lost £4000 of diamonds last Tuesday from her reticule - She had only been at Blackwood's and Naysmiths - and on going to Mackay and Cunningham's found the cases taken out of her reticule. I think her servants are to blame. She it is said had left [? it] in her carriage ... A Mrs. Murray who lived at 12 Drummond Place a strange woman but, I believe, a lady, is to be tried for burning a bond which she asked a sight of at the Register Office - her husband is in bad circumstances, and she thought it would save him paying it. Bail is taken as she is to be confined; she will be transported if her family cannot prove lunacy.'
n.d. `Miss Charlotte Stewart ... is likely to be married to Captain Harrington, 12th January - he has gone to ask his family's consent who are people of consequence - I think a great deal of her, but she is 34, he only 26'.
