Description |
1814, November 7. Betsey and the rest of the family will be happy to see Barcaldine, 'entertaining no doubt that you can very satisfactorily explain past occurences.'
Writer's daughter, Mrs. Maclean, is to be confined in Edinburgh 'under the eye of her mother and that the young Highlander may be born a Scotchman.' Wishes Barcaldine to observe the utmost privacy 'as Mrs. Dennistoun would not, upon any account, have her daughter's name again in the mouth of the public'.
1814, December 15. Feels that the marriage of Barcaldine to Elizabeth Dennistoun should take place before Barcaldine leaves for the continent or that the engagement should be considered at an end.
With a scroll answer, 11 August 1812, hinting that there are obstacles to the proposed marriage, namely 'an extreme degree of unsteadiness and fickleness' in writer's disposition, and lack of money
Dated at Camus Eskan, Edinburgh. |
