Description |
1828, March 21. Asks for Barcaldine's support for writer's election as collector of supply and taxes for Argyllshire.
1830, March 11. On contract with James Dickson, who had purchased a steamboat, the 'Henry Bell' from Alexander Laird of Greenock, for the purpose of conveying cattle from Argyllshire to Liverpool. Enquires whether Barcaldine and the other subscribers wish to pay their subscriptions, although the original agreement has not been carried out owing to the death of Captain Campbell, Kilmonivaig, a member of the committee appointed by the County for this purpose.
1832, February 8. Asks if report that Barcaldine intends to stand fo parliament is true; if so writer would certainly be inclined to support him, but wishes to know at once as Mr. Malcolm has arrived at Inveraray to canvas the county and writer is at a loss what to say to him.
1832, February 21. As Barcaldine has no intention of standing for parliament, writer has promised his vote to Mr. Callander.
1832, March 23. On petition by innkeepers of Inveraray and Oban to Lorne District Meeting, asking that rates of ferrying at Port Sonachan may be reduced to what they were 20 years ago, although the introduction of steam navigation has since then reduced the returns of all ferries by fully a half; as this would be a prelude to the reduction of all ferry rates in the County, writer thinks that every proprietor of ferries should be interested in opposing it; with Barcaldine's support the matter can be postponed until the other proprietors can be consulted, for McDougall, Lochnell and Sir John Campbell are all out of the country
Dated at Sonachan, Oban. |
