Description |
1808, September 13. On death of Johnny, her son; 'little did I think when I heard him go down stairs that morning that the next sight I was to see was his poor remains borne up through the park a lifeless corps'.
1808, October 5. 'It gives me great satisfaction, my dear, that you intend building a chapel over the remains of our dear Johny, but do let me say not to make it too expensive ... It quite satisfies me that you are to do it'.
Refers to new road by the Castle as a great improvement, much used by the tenants to bring home their corn safely, 'I have got Peter Sinclair to make the road between the new road and the castle a little broader and to mend all the bad steps in it so that a carriage may pass at any time with safety, he is to do it for £5 which I think very reasonable'.
1809, August 26. Thanks her son for the news of his safety after a 'dreadful' battle with the French, 'Sir Arthur has behaved like a heroe and may he vanquish wherever he goes'.
1814, October 1. Mr. Gillespie, the architect, has visited Barcaldine to decide on the site for the new house, and proposes one in the middle of the park, in the priory style, 'as that is the most proper for the surrounding scenery which he thinks the most picturesque he ever saw'
Dated at Barcaldine. |
