Description |
1808, September 9. Mary Campbell, recipient's mother, wishes remains of her husband, and Duncan Campbell of Glenure and Paribeg removed from Ardchattan; writer encloses epitaph on Paribeg's tombstone, 'it is said to be written by Mr. Colin Campbell of Achnaba, who was the confidential friend of the Great Sir Isaac Newton - as appears by many letters from Sir Isaac to him, still in possession of the Representative of the Achnaba Family'
[Note - according to family tradition, these letters were destroyed by a fire at an inn on a journey between Achnaba and Edinburgh in the nineteenth century.]
9 August 1811. 'I most perfectly coincide with you in Opinion, respecting Lord Wellington's conduct, and have no doubt at all that the future Historian of these times will class his name amongst some of the most celebrated Commanders of Antiquity'.

1823, April 8. Thanks him for a letter which, although 'in the manner of Tacitus, seems to have been written with all the rapidity of Sir Walter Scott'.
n.d. Wishes to know terms of the land measurer that Glenure has with him, as writer wishes a survey of his lands in Lismore, 'Which you know are chiefly arable, a very little pasture, and no inconsiderable proportion of Rock'.
