Description |
5 May, 1806. 'I dare say you would be surprised to hear of our worthy friend Mr. Dale leaving such immense wealth; I am quite pleased at his leaving them all equal, I hear they will have about 25 thousand each, it is a princely fortune for this country'.
1808, September 5. Condolences on death of Johnie, Mary Campbell's so
1811, July 24. Declines an invitation in an acrimonious way, accusing her sister of neglecting her as other friends have done since she left their form of religion.
1811, September 19. Luffness. The harvest and shearing are going on well. Her husband has about 80 people at work, many of them being highlanders who can hardly speak English; but they are sober, diligent workers, and get 2/- to 2/6 a day, with their meat - porridge and sweet milk for breakfast and supper, with excellent bread and beer for dinner
