Description |
1809, January 30. Royal Marine Barracks, Plymouth. 'How much I admire your resolution in changing the burial ground I can't express to you. The cause undoubtedly must be approved of by every body who feels the least interested in the respectability of the family and indeed in every point of view but, my dear madam, who would have undertaken and accomplished it but yourself? ... I know Bellachinteleg as well as any one can do, but I do not remember any place of the name of Tom na Marraw, I suppose it is but a modern name and if I interpret it right a very appropriate one it is - in English Tom na Marraw means the 'Tomb of the dead' or the 'hill of the dead', and you know a place of interment cou'd not possibly have a more applicable name. Whoever chose the spot and the name deserves great credit'.
1810, February 6. Guadaloup. Announces surrender of the colony of Guadaloup, after a very faint resistance
