26 Dec. 1797. Likes his school, has got a new suit of clothes, 'the coat is a Brown mixture with Grey Pantaloons'.
1801, January 30. London, Adelphi. 'I have been taking a walk with Peter Campbell today through part (of) the town; it is certainly a large place but as to the most past of the buildings that I have seen, I think they are inferior to the new town of Edinburgh'.
1801, April 24. Adam's Adelphi. 'I have sent you a set of jasper tea things, I bought them at Wedgwood's in St. James's Square, namely six tea cups and saucers, six coffie cups with saucers for do, one tea pot, one sugar dish, one slop bowll, one milk pot, one bread plate'.
1802, March. On an outbreak of scarlet fever among the boys at Harrow.
1802, November 12. 'Remember that when you write to me to direct Esq. as I think Mr. looks rather vulgar'.
1804, September 14. Edinburgh. Sends some books home for the children; he could not get 'The Italian', but has sent 'The Mysteries of of Udolpho'.
1805, June 4. "We together with a great many other troops are to be reviewed by His Majesty on the 14th at Wimbldon Common. We go out there on Saturday to practice the manoevres for that day. The life guards have encamped there already and the Oxford Blues have arrived in town to do their duty".
1805, July 18. Describes the review, which took place in heavy rain.
1805, September 17. 'The army destined for the invasion of this country has been removed from the French coast and marched in to the interior; all fear of invasion has of course died away for the present
1807, August - September. From the Palace of Fredricksberg. 3 letters from Denmark relating to seige of Copenhagen, and its capitulation, 7th September.
1808, April 24. Wishes a large map of Argyllshire and a plan of farm of Barcaldine by Langlands sent to him.
1809, March 14. Lisbon. Describes the city and climate.
1809, March 23. Enthuses again over the climate and describes the countryside.
1809, May 27. Oporto. The army has set out after Marshall Soult, who has unfortunately succeeded in getting into Spain with the remains of his army. 'To give you some idea of the country through which we pursued the French, I need only say that a great part of it is fully as wild as the country between Callander and Dalmally'.
1809, August 29. Lisbon. General Campbell has been advised by doctors to proceed to England; writer intends to accompany him, as the order for his promotion to lt. captain and his consequent order to the battalion in London have probably taken place before this; regrets that battle of Talavera has not had the effect he had hoped.
1810, April 24. Asks for the drawing of the arms which he got from the heralds' office may be sent to him, 'as the coachmaker does not know how to paint the tartan dress of the crest upon my arms'
