1785, November 2. Glasgow. 'Mrs Dale [writer's daughter, wife of David Dale] is continuing to recover finely and Jane a very stout child.'
1791, May 23. Intends to visit Lanark as they have been invited by Mr Dale; laments loss of her daughter, Mrs Dale; Mr Dale is bearing his affliction with great fortitude.
16 May. 'Your friend Jessie, [wife of James Campbell, writer's son] is again with us, you would hear she was prevented from going to India by an accident of a severe burn she got in her neck by the candle catching her hankerchief and being up too pair of stayers it was some time before she got assistance'
