Description |
1775, November 17. Contains account of money due, for transporting his furniture and family, thatching his house with straw; hopes that Glenure will build the schoolhouse shortly.
1784, January 9. Defends his conduct in beating an impertinent pupil. 1785, February 1. Has been appointed by kirk session of Ardchattan to acquaint Barcaldine that 3 guineas are due in place of fine and compearance before session from Barcaldine and Anne Cunningham.
1785, February 12. Asks Barcaldine's help in obtaining an increase in salary of writer's wife, who has only £3 yearly while some spinning mistresses get £7-8.
1785, June 3. Returns to the subject of an increase in salary for his wife; points out that he has a throng family of children and that his eldest daughter is lame, though she is still capable of teaching sewing, spinning, knitting of stockings and working of lace.
1787, December 5. Complains that the heifers of a neighbouring tenant in Achacha 'are remarkably vicious in leaping dicks', and have eaten all the kail and straw in writer's garden
Dated at Ferlochan, Keill. Note - the last of these letters is dated 1 December 1793, while a letter from Turner's wife speaks of her husband being dead on 28 October 1793. |
