Description |
1763, April 6. Complains at considerable length that Sandie has managed to spent 'the exorbitant sum' of £60 in about seven months at the College of Glasgow, which 'shagreen'd' Glenure a good deal. Announces that no more money will be forthcoming until he has received a distinct account of how this sum has been expended.
1766, March 22. Refers to Crieff as 'this damned dull hole where there is little or no stir, and consequently no news'.
1771, September 23. Complains of his son's conduct, 'going about at one district of the country drinking with every mortall you can find so disposed and your uncle, Gilbert, making the like progress in ano(ther) district, with this improvement in his travile, that he begs as well as drinks'.
1772, January 23. Mentions, without much sympathy, the refusal of Colin Campbell to marry Sandie; urges him to a more manly behaviour and to consider his Candlemas engagements instead 'than in giving yourself much vexation about a woman's refusing you while there are thousands would jump at the offer'.
1775, January 24. Gives the news that last night he has purchased the whole of the estate of Barcaldine at £24,000.
1777, April 4. Containing details of the woods surveyed by the Lorn Furnace Company and which parts Glenure is prepared to sell
Dated at Borland, Barcaldine, etc. |
